Top Parts Replacements

August 28, 2014

Proper maintenance and replacing worn or damaged parts is key to getting high performance and long life from your spray rig. Here are a few of the most popular replaced parts, along with some telltale signs that it’s time for replacement. Remember, that before you replace any parts, properly drain any liquid (such as spray chemicals, oil, etc.) from the parts before removing them from the rig.

Diaphragm Kits for Hypro D-30 and D-50 Pumps: $80 – $150

Expect to replace diaphragms once a year. If you notice any signs of pump oil taking on a milky appearance that means the spray liquid is mixing with the oil. This can severely damage the pump. If this is happening, it is very important to replace or repair the diaphragms as soon as possible. The replacement job should take about two hours to perform.

Spray Hoses: $0.68 – $ 1.44 per foot, depending on diameter and total length

Hoses should last from 4 to 6 years under conditions of normal use and wear. Hose life is shortened by damage, such as cuts and multiple repairs. Replace any rolls that show signs of excessive wear or cuts to avoid leaks or breakage while in the field; over-exposure of lawns to the spray chemicals can damage the grass. Replacing a roll of hose takes about an hour. Make sure there is no residual liquid in the old hose before removing it from the rig.

Tank Lids: $25 – $40

Tank lids typically last for 3 to 4 years with proper care. Excessive thread wear from normal use signals that the lid is at the end of its useful life and needs to be replaced. Missing or broken lids should be replaced immediately to avoid chemical damage from leaks and spills. Please note that either the tank or the lid must be vented to prevent the tank from imploding. If the lid you’re replacing is vented, your replacement lid must also be vented. Replacing a lid should take less than 30 minutes.
