Job Title: Fiberglass Fabrication Technician

Schedule: Monday – Friday – approximately 5:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Starting wage: $19/hr

Qualifications:

  • Candidates are required to pass a drug screening and background check before beginning employment.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment.
  • 1 year of fiberglass/composites experienced preferred.
  • Must be physically capable of repetitive lifting, standing entire shift, bending at waist and knees, and twisting to perform job duties.
  • Able to stand all day and lift 75 lbs. as needed.
  • Dependable, reporting to work on time and ready to work.

Job Duties:

  • Check all dies, templates, and cutout patterns to be used in the manufacturing process to ensure that they conform to dimensional data, photographs, samples, and/or customer specifications.
  • Check completed products for conformance to specifications and for defects by measuring with rulers or micrometers, by checking them visually, or by tapping them to detect bubbles or dead spots.
  • Mix catalysts into resins, and saturate chopped strand mat and woven roving materials with mixtures, using brushes and rollers.
  • Pat or press layers of saturated chopped strand mat and woven roving into place on molds, using brushes or hands, and smooth out wrinkles and air bubbles with hands or squeegees.
  • Release air bubbles and smooth seams, using rollers.
  • Repair or modify damaged or defective glass-fiber parts, checking thicknesses, densities, and contours to ensure a close fit after repair.
  • Select precut fiberglass mats, cloth, and wood bracing materials as required by projects being assembled.
  • Spray chopped fiberglass, resin, and catalysts onto prepared molds or dies using pneumatic spray guns with chopper attachments.
  • Trim cured materials by sawing them with diamond-impregnated cutoff wheels or pneumatic die grinders.
  • Follow company procedures to provide efficient and quality repair and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Must be punctual and have a dependable work ethic.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Create fiberglass reinforced parts per customer specifications including polishing, cleaning, and application of release products to molds in preparation for creation of parts. Proper application of gel coat, fiberglass reinforcement (chopper gun and/or hand lay-up), and any structural materials.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on marine and non-marine products. Types of repairs include but are not limited to fiberglass repair and fabrication, gel coat matching and repair, wood structural repair, carpeting, painting and finishing.
  • Improve customer service quality results and expectations by evaluating and modifying existing repair procedures and/or developing new procedures as required.
  • Identify the required repair process and estimate times associated to performing these repairs.
  • Apply releasing agents to mold surfaces to facilitate assembly and removal of laminated parts.
  • Apply layers of isophthalic or polyester resin to mold surfaces prior to placement of fiberglass mats, repeating layers until products have the desired thicknesses.
